In Indonesia, we are just about to enter the fasting month of Ramadhan, which occurs this year in September. With many girls going off to their villages (kampung) for the holiday and many of the massage knock shops closing for the season, guys might have to be a little more patient or make a little more effort to get pussy.

Blok M will be operating at a low key pace, but operating nonetheless. Palatehan bars will be closed on Sunday 31st August 2008 and Monday 1st September 2008 and then two weeks later on Tuesday 16th September 2008. Opening times will be normal on other days, but last orders will be taken at 1.30am and customers need to be out by 2am. Punting will be going full swing, with live music replacing disco allowed. At least this is the way that I saw it happening during my visit at Ramadhan time last year.

If you have never experienced Blok M in Jakarta, it is a little corner of South Jakarta, a business and shopping quarter that is home to a motley collection of bars, discos and night clubs. It’s well known to all the Jakarta expats, and anyone visiting the city who wants a real taste of the famous Jakarta night-life must put it at the top of their itinerary. Although it hasn’t been updated in a while, you can check out The Reveller’s Blok M Site with plenty of maps and information on the Blok M scene. My favorite bars at Blok M continue to be Top Gun and My Bar (by far, especially since I am a pool hound). If you are looking for great western food, Sportsman’s has a superb burger and G-String has awesome Cajun Chicken. The Reveller also has a more updated Blog M blog and discussion forum for more recent discussion on Blok M action. Many of the bar owners and Blok regulars are quite active on the forum, including Hitesh of My Bar (who is developing a nicer pool game when he isn’t keeping things in order).

It becomes a vicious cycle of planning and maximizing all funds and vacation time to just get back to your mongering destination faster and faster. Your life as you know it back home and all things around you in your western life don’t matter. All your friends and family don’t understand. No one can possibly ever know the feeling you get stepping into a mongering destination as Thailand, Dubai or PI, or having a sexy, young third world girl naked laying before you.

You begin to look around at your neighbors, looking at their fat wife’s, their huge mortgage, 2 car payments, and mountains of bills every month. And you begin to wish that one day you’ll never end up like that or ever go back to that lifestyle. You begin to realize that you are forever changed, and nothing will be the same.

Why go to a local strip club? Pay $20 for a lap dance? That is a blow job and fuck in PI. Eventually nothing becomes fun anymore, going traveling, going hiking, nothing really seems to match the feeling you had in Dubai, PI Thailand, nothing.

Your friends and parents will start to question why you’re on your 5th trip to Thailand a row. “Why do you keep going there?” “Why don’t you grow up” “that is not real life over there” “your partaking in the sex trade/human trafficking ring” “you can’t get any pussy here in the western world so you go overseas” “you looking for a mail order bride”

You hear all these negatives around you, and no one understands. No one except your fellow mongers. Deep inside, though everyone is making fun of you or criticizing you, you feel sorry for the guys that don’t know about the third world. Your friends would have so much fun if they would only go to the third world and see what you have seen, yet 95% of your friends will or come up with excuses not to go.

You look at your pictures from your trips and smile at every image and picture that brought you so much happiness. 

Those few months while you’re not on vacation is torture. I comb the internet and message boards for anything new or news about my favorite mongering destinations.

The life of a monger is a rollercoaster of ultimate highs, and horrible lows. I’m sometimes hesitant to bring new guys to the life because I know it will fuck them up for life. It is truly the best and worst thing to ever happen to me. A curse that can never be cured until he day I become a millionaire. Its worst than any street drug, that pussy is the most addictive substance known to man.

As if travelling sexpats such as myself don’t have enough hassles, I read a Washington Post article that U.S. Customs agents can search your laptop or Blackberry, examine files within, and even copy your hard drive. Yet another example of the out of control police state that is the United States. I have been reading on many chat boards that the TSA agents particularly target middle-aged guys coming from sex tourist destinations such as the Philippines or Thailand and conduct impromptu searches of laptops, digital cameras and cellphone cameras desperately hoping to find any souvenir pics of working girls. With Asian girls petite figures, the agents get a big kick out of tweaking their victims with taunts of “Hey, this looks like it might be child porn. Can you prove how old this girl was?”

Fuck it. If I was even transiting the social wasteland of the US, you can be sure that I would encrypt any personal files and keep memory cards well away from the snouts of the airport security workers.

Without even considering the legal, ethical, and Constitutional problems with this, it is simply an absolute waste of time. Unless someone has an obvious list of terrorist contacts in his address book, or a schematic of an airplane, there is simply no security benefit to this intrusion. I foretell that this will prove to be only an incredible hassle for already stressed travelers. It will however, allow for TSA to compile one hell of an iTunes playlist. Stay encrypted, AsianRain

To add to this story, Ralph of Men’s Asia Travel Exploits stopped by to tell me of the following story his friend experienced:

It has not happened to me as yet but it happened recently to a friend of mine when returning home. This guy is actually an attorney and knows the law. He did have some happy snaps of his exploits with him but was not concerned. He said the onus would be on them to prove the age of the girl if they tried to suggest she was underage.They went through him like a fine tooth comb. From what he told me they are just assholes about it so while they did this he taunted and abused them.

He was taking Christmas presents back for some of my friend and relatives. They just ripped the Christmas wrapping off with out regard for even keeping track of the names associated with the individual gifts.I will just say that even at the place I am living there are no such pics on my computer if I am not working on it. They are all stored offline.
