I am happy to report that I just got my first hate mail! Like a late lump of coal in my stocking from Santa, I had just returned from a new year’s mongering extravaganza in Manila and some guy calling himself “Peter/The Pope” had left this little nugget of wisdom in my mailbox:

After one year of operating this little blog, I was delighted to see that I was getting through to the nutcases. Especially the ones who are too brain dead to spell worth a damn. I know writing a sexpat/sex tourist reality blog isn’t going to get me invited as a guest on Oprah, so getting a piece of hate mail shows that my readership is expanding. I have to give it to Peter the Pope as I agree that AsianAppleSeed is a really fucking extreme site. Potentially disturbing news for naughty hunters of the Atrium mall in Jakarta. One of my Atrium squeezettes informed me that for the last month the new head of mall security has implemented a crackdown on the working girls who trawl the mall. Girls who are seen in negotiation with punters or obviously stationing themselves to pickup customers are now being targeted. She said that a couple of her friends had already been nabbed by security and therefore abandoned Atrium as a working venue. Given the historic dirty reputation of the security staff for actually aiding punters and working girls, I really didn’t think this was possible.

The targeting is across the board. Girls sitting at Cappuccino and Kopi Luaat who pick up locals/mideast customers. Sweety girls who sit at the game center in the Cinema 21. The MILF girls who sit near the food stalls on the 5th floor. Even girls who loiter outside. When I was there last week I was shocked to see this in action. I entered via the Mc Donalds and immediately spotted a group of 3 sweet young things going the opposite way around the kiddie rides. We made eye contact. I went up to the KFC on second floor to pick up some lunch and then spotted the girls looking at me from the railing. Sensing trouble if they kept standing there staring at me, I wanted to give them some money to buy drinks so they could sit with me. Just as I got up, a security guard came up behind them and escorted all three of them to the security post right there at the second floor.

I finished my meal and got an ice cream waiting at the railing for them to come out. They didn’t appear for 10min so I did a quick walk to the doors leading to the parking garage where the security post is located. All three girls were sitting down there. When I later asked my squeezette what exactly is happening, she told me that girls who are nabbed have to give their personal details and they are told that if they are spotted trawling again, they will be banned permanently. There are also apparently plain clothes security making the rounds of places like Solaria and Cinema 21 to make it easier to spot girls on the game. The nabbings are more of a scare tactic, but it seems to be delivering its desired effect as I observed that the number of girls has dramatically dropped at the usual pickup spots.

All this being said, it may not be the end of the world for mall shoppers. I was able to pick up decent girls on both of my Atrium visits. There are still girls trawling, but the girls seem to be doubly cautious not to look like they are working (which is doubly difficult to do if they are talking with a foreigner). The biggest effect seems to have been on the lazy locals who monger from the tables at the 5th floor as well as the naughty Saudis who monger from Cappuccino… I saw so many of them walking around looking like they were trying to figure out where their usual easy prey had disappeared to.

Hopefully there will be some kind of regime change in the Atrium security apparatus, but sadly it looks like our sweet young things will be under fire for a while. Enjoy JKT, AsianRain

Happy New Year to my faithful perverted readers! Ready for another productive year of mongering? With Ramadan long over the activity is back to business as usual in Blok M. I have been doing my usual bule bar hopping and thought I would make a quick update.

(1) M Club. This place just opened a couple months ago, replacing the building slot occupied by Lafonta disco. I had seen the staff doing practice training at Top Gun for a month, so when I saw the sign lit up and I decided to stop in. Kinda slow on the first floor, but the staff quickly guided me upstairs to the second floor lounge area which had a pool table with a few customers and girls hanging around. A couple of pics attached - outside and second floor pool table. The decor is fresh and the layout is spacious. You walk into a wide open bar/standing table area and there is a dance floor with a high ceiling. The theme of the place is “Music Lounge” and the flavor of what the DJ was spinning was definitely techno disco, although not over the top. I’m not sure how popular this music style will be with the bule crowd. Prices are the same as Top Gun. I ordered a drink and spent some time christening the pool table - nicely balanced as a new table should be. It will be interesting to see how this place develops. I just don’t see enough customers or girls on Faletehan to support another place. By the way… the girl at the pool table… I kicked her ass.

(2) D’s Place. I stopped in on Monday. There was a little contest going on with a group of girls tabletop dancing topless AND bottomless. Woo hoo. I can’t say that the dancing talent was that great - a bit long-toothed. And they didn’t waste a second to put their clothes back on once the contest was over. General situation was still bleak on the second floor.

(3) Top Gun. Still attracting a nice crowd for the earlier part of the evening. Decent band nightly, which tends to play a mix that the crowd likes. I like Top Gun best to start the evening.

(4) My Bar. For the latter part of the evening, still my preferred venue. The bulk of the girls working the floor are longtime regulars, but there are always a couple fresh talents.
